How to Apply

The University of Kentucky Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers five PGY-1 positions each year. These appointments are awarded through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP)

Step 1: Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

ERAS collects the following information:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • USMLE Licensure Exam Transcripts (REQUIRED)
  • Medical School Performance Evaluations (Dean's Letter)
  • Minimum of 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)

Important Dates

September 15, 2019
Applicants may send their applications to selected schools

October 1, 2019
Medical School Performance Evaluations (MSPE's) are released to programs

October 1, 2019
Program Application deadline

March 20, 2019

After you select our program code, the application is available to our department, electronically, for review.

Step 2: Interview Invitations

An invitation for an interview will be sent out beginning Wednesday September 25, 2019 through the ERAS scheduling system. Applicants will have 72 hours to respond to the interview invitation before it will be offered to another candidate. Rolling interview invitations will continue until November 22, 2019 for those placed on our waitlist. 

Candidates not initially invited for an interview will begin receiving an email between October 1, 2019 and November 22, 2019 indicating their application status (waitlist or rejected). 

Applicants are selected for interviews based on a selection rubric which invovles various aspects of each application. During this busy time of year, phone calls will not be accepted, please email if you have questions regarding your application or the interview process. 

Step 3: The Interview

Interviews will be on Tuesdays

  • October 29, 2019
  • November 12, 2019
  • November 19, 2019
  • December 10, 2019

Further information concerning the interview day:

A casual dinner and social will be held at 7:00pm. Business casual attire is appropriate. Location will be sent via email. 

Interview Day
The day begins with breakfast along side faculty and residents at 7:30am. The day should conclude by 2:30pm. 

Department Chairman Welcome
Wendy Hansen, M.D. will give an introduction to our department and introduce each division chair.

Division Chairman Welcome
Each division director will give a description of their respective division.

Individual interviews
Each applicant will participate in five separate interviews.

Facility Tour
A tour of the hospital and medical campus will be given to applicants when they are not interviewing.

Resident Slide-Show
A slide-show presentation about the residency program and resident life will be given to applicants when they are not interviewing.

Lunch will be served at 12:30pm.

Step 4: The Match

All PGY-1 positions are offered through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).

The department follows the policies and agreements set by the NRMP.
